Redbridge Hit for Six

Redbridge Hit for Six

Adam Silver27 Feb 2019 - 22:27

The Motormen were well beaten losing six goals to nil at Woodford Town.

Redbridge were hit for SIX against an unforgiving Woodford Town side on Tuesday evening at the Harlow Arena.

With three changes to the side from Saturday's win over Southend Manor the Motormen came into the game positive having lost just the once from their previous six outings.

The home side forced an early corner before having a great chance to open the scoring when ex Redbridge striker Vlad Sighiartau went through one on one against Rhys Hughes however as he tried to go around the Redbridge keeper he pulled up on the surface and with it the chance went begging.

Moments later at the opposite end almost an identical situation as Petrit Elbi played in Dan Gilchrist who beat Town keeper James Scammell to the ball, but he also lost his footing before getting his shot in and the home defence were able to clear the danger.

Redbridge then came forward as Kai Heather saw his shot parried away before Elbi fired in a shot which flew just wide of the upright before Woodford’s number 7 had a free kick which was easily held by Hughes.

The game was certainly becoming a tight affair however Woodford took the lead after 34 minutes when Temi Babalola back heeled the ball off to Alan Flemming who was allowed too much space and from inside the box curled a delightful effort past Hughes into the corner of the net.

Redbridge came forward as Heather and Gilchrist combined well to find Connor Okus who squared the ball dangerously across the penalty box but unfortunately for them nobody in a red shirt was to be found.

Woodford then doubled their lead after Babalola showed superb skill to beat Dean Hall inside the penalty area before finding his spot at the far corner of the goal.

Heather then had an effort on goal, but it lacked any power and was easily gathered before Okus saw his shot go tamely wide whilst Woodford’s two saw his curling effort just miss the crossbar.

Two down at the break, any hopes of a Redbridge comeback were soon crushed when Babalola grabbed his second of the game after his initial shot was saved but was first to react when the rebound came straight back to him and he made no mistake at the second time of asking.

Woodford were now in complete control and only a desperate goal line clearance from Billy Willis denied Fleming from grabbing his second of the evening.

A double substitution from Redbridge saw no change in momentum as Hall was alleged to have pulled back his man and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot, up stepped Babalola to grab his hat trick.

A rare chance for the Motormen as Woodford number 5 mishit a pass into the path of Elbi but the keeper was out quickly to save with his legs.

Poor Redbridge defending then presented their ex player Vlad Sighiartau with the ball and he was allowed to run unchallenged towards goal before calmly slotting into the bottom corner to make it five.

Redbridge final change of the evening saw Charleston Browne enter the pitch and he almost scored with his first touch as a cross was put over just evading him at the far post.

It was soon six for Woodford as a free kick found Fleming in space and he had time to look up before rifling a shot into the goal beyond the reach of Hughes.

Six should have become seven as Babalola ran straight through the Redbridge defence but with just Hughes to beat he smashed the ball against the post.

The final chance of the game saw Redbridge substitute Taylor Tombides lob beat both keeper and bar and summed up a poor performance and one they will want to forget in a hurry.
