The hosts started the game well and captain Golby playing in a unorthodox role up front for the second game in a row, headed the Motormen ahead after 4 minutes. Good play on the left by Vinnie Durrant fed the ball to Ben Bradbury who crossed the ball in for Golby to flick towards the far corner of the net for his second goal of the season.
Boosted by going ahead, Redbridge looked dominant and although Maldon looked dangerous on the break with Sos Yao, they failed to force Joe Wright into making a save.
In truth Redbridge were unlucky not to go into half-time with a two-goal lead but unfortunately Joe Gardner was denied a penalty after a clear foul in the box with the forward seeing a shot blocked five minutes before the interval.
After the break, Maldon had Scott Chandler in goal to thank for keeping them in the match with the experienced keeper producing two brilliant saves to deny Redbridge from taking what would have been a deserved two-goal lead.
First the keeper did well to hold onto a low rasping Nathan Gordon shot before brilliantly tipping wide a Gardner header from a Lewis Dark cross when a goal looked a certainty from the hard-working forward.
With the game nearing it’s conclusion five minutes from time Maldon equalised. Shortly after a corner was hacked clear, Maldon broke down the left and Antoine slotted the ball home ahead of Wright in goal to the frustration of Redbridge’s fans, players and management staff.
Despite some late pressure, the Motormen were unable to find a winner with their best chance falling to debutant Michael Toner who narrowly headed wide a Billy Sendall throw-in a minute before full-time.
Redbridge: Joe Wright, Aarun Best (Michael Toner 63), Vinnie Durrant, Billy Sendall, Matt Turpin, Lewis Dark, Ben Bradbury, Daniel Hopkins, Glen Golby (James Robinson 72), Joe Gardner (Ryan Wade 83), Nathan Gordon.
