Redbridge went into the match confident of continuing their good away form after a 5-1 win at Potters Bar Town just 3 days earlier. Several players were unable to travel to the match so there were starts for Craig Wood and James Robinson whilst Ryan Murray dropped to the bench.
Redbridge as in recent matches came out the blocks quickly and played some neat stuff but it was the home side that had the first chance when Scott Carter headed just over from a corner. Dubi Ogbonna then broke into space but his shot was one to forget as it sailed well over the bar.
Redbridge were unable to get a foothold in the game although Joe Gardner as always looked lively on the ball however his strike partner Robinson had to make way as he unable to continue due to injury and was replaced by Gordon. Moments later and the home side took the lead when a Lewis Dark foul resulted in a free kick which was floated into the box and headed across goal by Arron Wickham to Andrew Coleman who simply headed into an empty net.
Redbridge needed to up the anty in the 2nd half but it should have been 2-0 to Soham as Wickham missed from 5 yards out after a good save from Wright saw the ball fall at his feet with just an empty net in front of him. Ogbonna then went on a run, turned his defender before firing a shot which Wright had to be at full stretch to turn over.
Redbridge then had their first real attempt as Michael Toner saw his 20 yard effort just sail wide of Dan Bircham’s post, This seemed to be the turning point as from that moment on it was one way traffic as the Motomen piled on the pressure as they went in search of an equaliser.
The best chance fell to Nathan Gordon who rose unmarked to head home a lovely cross from Ryan Wade but when it seemed easier to score his effort went wide. Wade then almost scored himself when he got on the end of a Vincent Durrant cross and lopped his header towards goal but Bircham was equal to it and brilliantly tipped the ball over.
Substitute Mitchell Das then cut inside from the right win and saw his effort parried by Bircham , the ball fell into the path of Dark who tapped the ball into the net but was judged to be in an offside position. Durrant then had a well taken free kick saved before Soham made a rare break on the counter-attack but Seymour Smith lacked composure in the box and the chance had gone.
With time running out the home side continued to defend for their lives and they held on for just their 3rd home league victory of the season and pushed themselves away from the relegation places,
