The Motormen started the game well and after Ryan Murray saw a shot from close range, his strike partner Ryan Wade was to see shots blocked inside the area after Joeseph Ellul had flicked the ball to the back post following a Vinnie Durrant corner.
Bradley Barnes was looking lively for Tilbury and throughout the first half the left-sided winger looked the visitor’s brightest player, causing Joe Gardner and Billy Sendall problems down Redbridge’s right-flank.
Barnes was unlucky several times that his crosses which were of a high-standard were not diverted home by either Tom Webb or Alex Read as Redbridge’s defence held firm making sure that neither striker could take advantage.
Marrable who played for Redbridge 14 times in the 2008/09 season then made a spectacular save at his near post, denying Wade flicking in a header from a Durrant cross when it seemed that the ball was out of his reach.
Once again Joe Ellul was partnering Glen Golby in defence and the young defender signed from Barkingside was unlucky to see a header from a Sendall long-throw just go narrowly wide of goal with 30 minutes gone.
Just as fans inside the Oakside were thinking that the first-half would end goalless, Redbridge took the lead a minute before half-time, but only after Tilbury blew a golden chance to go into the break a goal up themselves.
Referee Howes blew for a penalty-kick after it appeared Golby had made a foul from a corner inside the area. Sam West stepped up for Tilbury only to see his spot-kick brilliantly saved to his left by Joe Wright.
It was a stunning save from the keeper. The ball was quickly played out to Aarun Best who bravely sent the ball out wide to Durrant who from the left flank picked out Wade in the area who knocked the ball across goal for Toner to score.
It was a breathtaking move that had Tilbury’s fans and players shell-shocked with Redbridge supporters and players delighted at suddenly going into the break a goal up having feared the worst before West’s spot-kick.
In the last two home league games against Ilford and Waltham Abbey, the Motormen have come out after half-time with leads only to not get into first-gear, giving their opponents control of the game, dropping points in games they should have won.
Spillane was not going to be letting that happen this time round. With Ryan Murray forced off with a calf strain, Craig Gilliam came on and within two minutes of his club debut had set up the goal that doubled Redbridge’s lead.
Shortly after a troublesome Tilbury corner, Gillam 30 yards from goal played in Durrant, who turned his marker inside the area before sending in a low shot across goal which beat Marrable into his far-hand post and into the net.
It was the talented left-sided player’s fourth goal of the season and one that in all honesty killed the game off. Shortly after that the tireless Aarun Best was brought off with Jamie Haywood coming on as his replacement.
Two minutes after arriving on the pitch, the popular utility player had helped set up Redbridge’s third and Toner’s second of the match, blocking a goal-bound Lewis Dark shot into the midfielder’s path who volleyed the ball home.
With Redbridge 3-0 up with 30 minutes remaining, Spillane and everyone inside the ground knew that the game was well and truly over. The team defended well and almost grabbed a fourth but Shane Wyllie drove a shot narrowly wide late on.
Redbridge: Joe Wright, Billy Sendall, Aarun Best (Jamie Haywood 58), Joesph Ellul, Glen Golby, Michael Toner, Joe Gardner, Lewis Dark, Ryan Murray (Craig Gillam 46), Ryan Wade (Shane Wyllie 76), Vinnie Durrant.
