The Motormen went into the match with just the one change from the weekend victory over Soham Town Rangers as Matt Turpin replaced Aaron Best.
The first real chance fell to Redbridge when they were awarded a free kick but Vinnie Durrant’s effort was too high to test Sam Mott in goal. Thamesmead had their first chance when Joe Wright thought he had more time than he actually did and his clearance was charged down by the Thamesmead number 11 and the ball could have gone anywhere but fortunately went wide of goal.
The game then sprung to life , first Joe Ellul committed a foul just outside the area and up stepped Ashley Proberts who saw his free kick superbly tipped onto the post by Wright before bouncing down onto the line and away for a corner.
Minutes later Redridge broke up the other end through William Sendall who saw his cross headed unmarked into the net by Matt Turpin who scored his first goal for the club.
The away side were now on top and good skill by Perry Burns saw a ball delivered into the box which the Thamesmead defence just managed to clear. Mitchell Das has a great chance to score as he raced onto a loose ball after the defender failed to clear but just before he managed to get his shot on target the same defended managed to get back and clear the danger.
As the half came to an end the home side went looking for the equaliser and the closest they came was when number 10 found space and saw his shot well saved and caught by Wright.
Redbridge made the perfect start to the 2nd half and doubled their lead on 49 minutes when Das found substitute Joe Gardner out wide in space, he crossed and found Shane Wyllie at the far post who volleyed superbly past the keeper to make it 2-0.
Minutes later and it was almost 3-0 as Das played an inch perfect ball through to Durrant who broke forward and saw his drilled effort just go wide of the far post.
A controversial decision by the referee was then made as Mitchell Das beat a man on the half way line and proceeded to run the towards goal with just Mott to beat. Although two Redbridge players were in front of him he never passed but the whistle went and an offside decision was given although nobody in the ground quite knew why?
On 54 minutes Thamesmead were reduced to ten men when Probarts received his second yellow card but they did manage to get back into the match on 69 minutes when Michael Toner was disposed just outside the area and Jordan Johnson slipped the ball through to Lea Dawson who made no mistake with his fine effort. It was a bad error and allowed the home side back into the game when they really did look dead and buried.
Joe Ellul was carried off injured and replaced by Jamie Haywood and it was his through ball on 76 minutes that found Joe Gardner free, he rounded goalkeeper Mott and simply rolled the ball into an empty net to restore the two goal advantage.
Redbridge were not finished there however and on 83 minutes Das wrapped the game up as he raced onto a poor defensive header and nipped in to poke the ball home with his second goal of the week.
All in all a good professional performance and we now move up to 8th position just one point behind the play off places.
