Second Half Slump At Harlow

Second Half Slump At Harlow

Adam Dennehey21 Mar 2012 - 20:13

A poor second-half performance from Redbridge allowed fellow play-off chasing Harlow to grab a win that could prove vital come the end of the season.

Redbridge started the game well with James Robinson looking sharp. The forward who missed a late penalty against Sudbury on Saturday started the game well, playing almost as if he almost had something to prove to his team-mates.

After receiving the ball from Perry Burns in midfield, Robinson skipped past his marker playing in Joe Gardner inside the area only for the flag to go for offside just as the tireless forward was about to stroke the ball home.

Jeff Hammond and Bertie Brayley up top for Harlow predictably were looking a threat. Hammond won a free-kick just outside the box after being fouled by Matt Turpin with the resulting set-piece going wide of Joe Wright’s goal.

Good hustling in midfield from the Motormen won a throw out on the right 25 yards from goal on 12 minutes. Billy Sendall’s throw into the box caused Harlow problems and the ball looped into the net over Bertrand Bossu of Harlow’s skipper Ryan Kirby.

Mitchell Das had a half-chance to make it 2-0 but couldn’t stretch enough to get enough power onto his shot with Bossu doing well to save the ball at his near post with Das and Robinson waiting to pounce for a rebound.

Brayley was continuing to threaten and only a great rear-guard header from Lewis Dark prevented the former Heybridge forward’s shot from the edge of the box going past Wright and into the keeper’s left-hand corner.

Wright was then forced into a great save to keep out David Cowley’s powerful low effort from the edge of the box with the keeper getting down to gather the rebound well before Brayley could attempt to poke it in.

Just before the break the ball was in the net again for Redbridge through Turpin who followed in a free-kick from Robinson that Bossu failed to hold onto. Despite the big defender looking onside, the linesman ruled the goal to be offside.

After the break Aaron Ramos-Gonzmez came on for his Redbridge debut replacing Burns out on the right for Redbridge. Burns had ran himself into the ground and it was a chance for the winger of Mexican heritage to make an impact.

Sadly before he was able to test Harlow down the flanks, the hosts not only found an equaliser on 52 minutes but took the lead two minutes later to grab full control of the game much to the delight of their vocal supporters.

First Luke Marshall fired in from 20 yards after a free-kick was blocked with the midfielder’s low shot going in past Wright who appeared to dive over the ball, probably due to the fact the goalkeeper saw the ball late.

Harlow’s second came when Michael Toner lost the ball just outside the penalty area with the ball eventually finding Cowley inside the area whose low shot crept past Wright and Sendall on the goal-line.

The hosts to their credit dealt with long-balls and long-throw’s into the area well and only came close to conceding a goal on 70 minutes when Ramos-Gonzmez’s low cross into the area was almost flicked home by Das.

Late on Harlow came close to grabbing a third but Wright made three stunning saves, one a breathtaking save form a Cowley free-kick in added-time to at least slightly atone for his error for Harlow’s first.

Redbridge: Joe Wright, William Sendall, Vincent Durrant, Matt Turpin, Glen Golby (Ryan Murray 89), Michael Toner, Perry Burns (Aaron Ramos-Gonzmez 46), Lewis Dark, Joe Gardner, James Robinson (Shane Wyllie 78), Mitchell Das.
