Enfield hit for Six

Adam Silver23 Nov 2019 - 23:45

Redbridge beat Enfield with a convincing 6-0 win, goals from Martin(2), Nalbant(2) , Harvey and Okus.

Redbridge and Enfield locked horns at the Oakside for the second time this season with the home side winning the first match 4-0 in the Errington Challenge Cup last month.

With striker Dan Gilchrist having recently departed the club new signing Hassan Nalbant continued in attack after his midweek brace against Cockfosters whilst Michael Corderoy took charge between the sticks for the home side.

There was an early chance for Nalbant who found himself running through on goal but he placed his shot too close to Alex Jennings in goal who was able to make the save.

Enfield came forward for the first time with striker Michael Salako who saw his shot drift well wide.

The opening goal shortly arrived when good work down the left flank from Jordayne Henry found Nalbant who twisted and turned before seeing his cross find Tony Martin at the far post who had the simple task of heading home.

Enfield were then awarded a free-kick just outside the box which was taken quickly finding Salako in space and although he got his shot in
Corderoy was able to turn the ball away for a corner.

A big moment in the match followed when Enfield gave away possession in their own half as Nalbant nicked the ball away and ran towards goal before being up ended by Robert Hodgson who was duly sent from the field.

The resulting free-kick saw Tom Harvey bend the ball around the wall but Jennings in goal was equal to it and pushed the ball around the post.

Redbridge were taking advantage of having the extra man as they came forward again and it was not long before they doubled their lead when a cross was headed down into the path of Harvey who met the ball on the half volley and fired home.

As the second half began Enfield continued to struggle in the final third lacking any attacking momentum and it was no real surprise when the home side made it three.

Harvey had a second bite at the cherry with a free kick finding Connor Okus in space and as he looked up and put a cross over it looped up over Jennings in goal and dropped into the back of the net, was it a cross or shot- only he will know ?

Wave after wave of Redbridge attack followed as Martin then Nalbant were both denied before the latter did get his goal making no mistake firing home from close range.

It never took long for him to get amongst the goals again as this time he decided to go alone as the Enfield defence parted in-front of him as he ran through a couple of challenges before slotting past Jennings.

A rare chance followed for Enfield when a cross came over finding Joe Johnson who was unable to keep his header down.

Redbridge however were not finished with the goals and a cross from Darnell Bromfield was half cleared by a defender straight into the path of Martin who shot first time to make it six.

The full time whistle soon followed ending a good week for Redbridge who bounced back from last weekend's poor result with two good wins.
