Defeat at Dockers

Defeat at Dockers

Adam Silver25 Apr 2013 - 21:10

Redbridge were defeated 4-1 at Tilbury on Tuesday night, our goal coming from new signing Jacob Cleaver.

Tilbury remained top of Ryman North with a 4-1 over a much improved Redbridge side. The difference in the sides was Tilbury scoring 3 times in 6 second half minutes. Tilbury made four changes from the victory over Wroxham on Saturday with Marrable, Pooley, Barnes and Mead starting in place of Smith, Parker, Waters and Nightingill.

After only 5 minutes Tilbury had a great shout for a penalty when Danny Francis was bundled over in the box and the same player also went close early on. Midway through the half, both sides had chances with Henty and Matthews firing over for the hosts and Cleaver and Williams for Redbridge. On 30 Bowditch in the visitors goal had to be at his best to deny Matthews in a goalmouth scramble. On the break Joel Barnett weaved in and out and fired just over. Just after the break, the best chance of the game fell to Emiel Aiken who missed from 8 yards. This spurred the Dockers on and in the 57th minute a corner from the right was headed back back by Beale in the home defence to Joel Barnett who headed in to an empty net. The Motormen seem to drop there heads and 3 minutes later a ball through from skipper Gary Henty found Barnett again to round the keeper and score for his 4th goal in 3 games. It took a further 3 minutes for Tilbury to make it 3-0 when a cross from Matthews found Emiel Aiken who's well placed header found the net. Against the run of play Redbridge pulled a goal back when former Concord Rangers striker Jacob Cleaver slotted past Marrable. With both sides making changes, the game lost it's shape. On 83 Matthews played in Gary Henty who hit wide with the goal at his mercy.

In the final minute Henty made up for his miss when he played a lovely ball through to substitute Martin Llewellyn to score Tilbury's 4th and a goal on his birthday. Tilbury were delighted to play out the last 24 minutes with both youngsters Jake Pooley and Ben Crooks at the heart of the defence

After the game Manager Paul Vaughan said "A disappointing first half against a much improved Redbridge side, but the boys showed strength on depth in the second period"
