Defeated By Dockers

Redbridge hosted an inform Tilbury side, the Motormen hoping to bounce back after last weeks 11-0 loss to Heybridge Swifts.

Unfortunately it was the away side who claimed all three points, Tilbury winning the game 3-1. Not as many goals as last week but a much improved performance from the home side.

It was Redbrigde who opened the scoring on 11 minutes. Ryan Reed playing a perfect through ball for striker Jacob Cleaver, who made a great run beyond the Tilbury defence. Cleaver neatly cut back inside the defender and blasts a powerful left footed shot past James Marrable's near post. 1-0 Redbridge.

Shortly after the goal the home side almost doubled their lead, after some neat play in the midfield the ball is looped over the Tilbury defence. Cleaver reads the pass well and beats the offside trap to run clear, he sees the keeper advancing off his line and tries an audacious chip from out side the box. Agonisingly wide, a wonderful effort from the striker.

After some good early pressure from the Motormen, Tilbury got back into the game and grabbed an equaliser on the 20th minute mark. A cross fizzed in from the right hand side, beats the Redbridge defenders and the ball falls to Sam Cutler just out side the box, he makes no mistake with finish and curls the ball in the top right corner of the net. Dean Neil unable to keep it out. Redbridge 1-1 Tilbury.

Tilbury are now looking the more dangerous of the two sides and take the lead in the 25th minute. Cutler forcing a fine reaction save from Neil unfortunately he could only parry the shot straight into the path of Tom Wraight who calmly puts his team in the lead with a good finish, placing it into the bottom right corner. Redbridge 1-2 Tilbury

The away side were beginning to dominate possession, after some strong hold up play from Emiel Aiken, he turned his defender; with some what ease and played a dangerous ball into the box, only a brilliant interception from defender Anthony McDonald denied a great goal scoring opportunity.

Redbridge were still very much in the game at this point and looked to catch the opposition on the counter attack. In the 38th minute, the impressive Reed who only started the game due to the late arrival of Glen O'Hanlon picked the ball up on half way line and played an almost identical pass to one which led to Cleaver's goal, only for it to be cut out by an outstretching Tilbury defender.

Tilbury were forced into a substitution on 42 minutes, Danny Francis coming on for one of the goalscorers Tom Wraight, who may have picked up a knock from an earlier challenge.

Half-Time- Tilbury seemed to enjoy the majority of possession and looked the dominate side. Redbridge looked dangerous on the break, and had a few good chances.

Tilbury began the second half looking to build on a good first half performance. It was nearly the perfect start for them, Aaron Waters bursting from the midfield to get beyond the Redbridge defence. Cutler picked him out with a inch perfect cross field pass. Not a lot can be said about the finish, straight into the keepers grateful arms. The pass deserved much better.

Redbridge made a change after 58 minutes Chris Roberts coming on for Charlie Portway. In the 63rd minute Redbridge skipper Nikki Beale made a last ditch block from an Aaron Waters close range effort. Some brave defending from the Motormen keeping them in the game.

Tibury made a second substitution in the 64th minute, Tony Jacobs being replaced by Tom Webb. Tilbury appeared the most likely to score the next goal, however Redbridge still looked like catching the away side on the break.

On 72 minutes Redbridge made another change with maanger Steve Portway replacing Stuart Fergus. The substitute was straight into the action winning his side a free kick just outside the box, a good shooting opportunity.

Portway stepped up to take it and fired it straight at the wall only for the ball to bounce straight back into his path and he is fouled again, a little closer in. This time Jack Carlile stepped up and fired just over the bar, a much better effort.

Tilbury secured all three points and crushed any hope of the home side getting a draw out of the game. In the 81st minute the referee awards the away side a penalty a Redbridge defender pushing Danny Francis to the ground. Not many arguments. Waters took responsibility and placed the penalty neatly in the bottom left corner of the net sending the keeper the wrong way. Redbridge 1-3 Tilbury.

The visitors made a change after that to see out the game with Martin Llewellyn coming on for Jimmy Cook.

Cleaver nearly scored a wonderful goal in the 88th minute. With His back to goal he showed a great first touch, flicking the ball up with his left swivelling and volleying with his right from about 30 yards out the keeper was stranded on his line only for the ball to scrape the top of the bar.
