Wroxham Take Points

Adam Silver12 Apr 2013 - 12:51

Wroxham enjoyed their very first visit to the Oakside taking all three points in a 4-1 win, our goal coming from Jacob Cleaver.

Wroxham made their first ever visit to the Oakside Stadium and returned back to Norfolk with 3 points after an impressive 4-1 victory.

It was the home side who started the brightest and within just four minutes they had taken the lead through their top scorer Jacob Cleaver. The ball was given away in midfield by Wroxham and the ball fell to Cleaver who from at least 30 yards out he saw Jake Jessup off his line and lobbed the ball over him into an empty net.

That goal should have been the springboard for the Motormen to push on but instead it was the away side that seemed to react the quickest and within minutes they almost equalised when Matthew Halliday rose unmarked from a corner but headed straight into the arms of Michael Bowditch. They did not have to wait too long before they were back on level terms with a goal of quality to rival the one scored by Redbridge.

A silly foul was conceded just outside the penalty box and it was Jamie Spellar who stepped up to take a free kick leaving Bowditch clutching at thin air and was similar to the free kick scored by Wigan against QPR in the Premiership just days earlier.

Four minutes later and the game swung in the favour of the Yatschmen , another free kick was awarded which was swung into the box. The home defence failed to clear and when the ball arrived back in Andrew Eastaugh jumped highest and headed home.

It could and should have been three moments later with only the crossbar coming to Redbridge’s safety before Cleaver broke free and looked certain to score before Halliday timed his tackle to perfection and got his challenge in.

The second half saw Redbridge huff and puff without any real end product and in all honesty they never really looked like they would get the equalising goal. Wroxham however looked dangerous on the attack and they put the match to bed in the 72nd minute when a good move down the right saw Matthew Daniels cross and Spellar was on the end of it to thump home his 2nd and Wroxham’s 3rd of the match.

The closes the home side came to getting a consolation was when Charlie Rolls put a lovely ball into the box, Cleaver beat his man to the ball but could only poke the ball wide. It was game over on 86 minutes when Ben Thompson rifled home and beat Bowditch who was diving at full stretch.

Redbridge will have no time to be downhearted as they are back in action on Thursday when they face Brentwood Town in yet another rearranged fixture. Again it will be seen as a must win match as games are slowly running out if the Motormen wish to be playing Ryman football next season.
