After a good performance in midweek the started poorly in this match, and could easily have been several goals down by half-time.

Potters Bar took a deserved lead early on in the ninth minute though a straightforward header from striker Daniel Ailey, and could have built on that, hitting the bar twice from Ailey again and Lee Close which would have been fair as Redbridge barely got out of their own half.

Redbridge upped their game in the second half though, and equalised minutes after the restart through a close range header from Gary Skerritt, a low corner easily placed inside the post.

The lead held for ten minute until Potters Bar defender Wesley Beckles shot bounced straight through the crowded box and into the back of the net, to the disgust of Michael Bowditch in the Redbridge goal.

All credit to the visitors though, they weren’t disillusioned and went straight back up the other end for Skerritt to level again and from there it looked to be a battle that could be won by either side.

It wasn’t to be though and Lee Close side footed it home on 77 minutes to condemn the Motormen to the bottom spot as Ilford conjured up three points to overtake them.

Ware come to Oakside next Saturday and Redbridge must end a losing sequence that now runs to five matches.

It’s getting very uncomfortable in the basement of the Ryman One North, but that’s what happens when you take just 14 points from 31 games.
Coach Benroy Spring credited the players’ attitude though and knows that it just takes that little bit of luck to change things. They better hope it turns up soon….
