Maldon Town 0 v 3 Redbridge FC - Attendance 55

Adam Silver25 Mar 2010 - 10:36

Redbridge won for the first time since November with 3 first half goals sealing the victory.

Redbridge went into this match with a changed line up to the one that suffered home humiliation in a 3-0 reverse to bottom of the league Harlow midweek. Australian midfielder Jack Petrie and Craig White signed from Canterbury City came into the side for their debuts.

Both sides found it hard to play any decent football in the wet and windy condtions but it was the away side who had the first real chance when Mark Nougher's 20 yard shot went off Smelt's goal. At the other end the home side had a chance to take the lead when goalkeeper Dave McCartney's attempted clearance bounced back off one of his defenders straight to the feet of Laurant Hamill who tried his luck from outside the area but the ball went wide off an empty Redbridge goal.

In the 22nd minute the Motormen took the lead when Bobby Port was on hand to poke the ball home after a defensive mix by Maldon. Moments later it was almost 2-0 when Nougher's shot from distance hit a post but bounced back to safety.

Redbridge did not have to wait long however for another goal which soon came when defender Alf Dickinson rose highest in the penalty box to head home staright from a corner. It soon got even better for the away side when a Nougher deflected free kick was pushed onto the post by Smelt in goal only for White to be the first to react and knock in the rebound for 3-0.

Into the 2nd half and Redbridge continued where they had left off , a Lee Matson cross bouncing back off the crossbar. The home side improved and as expected came out fired up as the game turned more physical with some fierce challenges taking place. Hamill had the best chance for Maldon when put through in space and should of at least tested McCartney but his shot ended up going nearer the corner flag.

Petrie then cleared the ball off the line before White was put clear out side before coming inside his man and rather than the easier option of shooting he decided to square the ball which was cleared by a Maldon defender.

An excellent team performance deserved the 3 points which with Leyton losing takes us out the bottom two relegation places.
