After a dissapointing defeat to Ilford on Tuesday night, Dave Ross's side bounced back in tremendous style by defeating third placed East Thurrock at the Oakside.
In terms of the result, it may look a suprise considering where the two teams are situated in the table. The Motormen though turned up today and derserved their victory, with probably their best performance of the season.
Making him home debut for the team was Steve Good in midfield and he had a fine performance from the word go. Good was eager in midfield and put immediate pressure on East Thurrock early on, not letting the visitors settle.
A good ball from the back from Alf Dickinson was flicked onto Jack West via Bobby Port's header. West did well to turn his marker Ben Wood before shooting narrowly wide. A good effort from the youngster.
East Thurrock's only attempts on goal in the half came from corners. Twice centre back James Donovan saw headers go over the bar from corners. In truth James Marrable in goal was hardly tested.
With two minutes to go in the first half, the hosts almost took the lead. A good ball in the box from White on the wing was headed out to Simon Peddie. The defender had continued his run from centre half and hit the ball powerfully towards goal. It hit a defender and spun slowly towards goal, narrowly going past the post.
Going into the second half, Dave Ross would have told his team to concentrate at the start of the half. The players listened and unlike the home defeat to Ilford came out strong in the second half.
After a long spell of possession the Motormen took the lead. Good play from Mark Nougher and Good in midfield, presented West with the ball from the edge of the box. With the angle against him the forward flicked the ball inside Wood again and hit a stunning low drive past Richard Wray in goal to score. A great goal that his performance derserved.
With the clock ticking down, the visitors brought on three subs but it wasn't enough for them to sustain pressure for an equaliser. The only one opportunity they created was missed, when Sam Higgins drove wide from 20 yards.
Deep into injury time West almost scored a second when a Nougher ball found him 20yards out from goal. It was hit perhaps too well by the forward and the shot fizzled over the bar. That chance didn't matter though as the full time whistle blew second earlier giving the Motormen a vital win. Other results also went for them with Heybridge defeating Leyton and Ilford losing at home to leaders Lowestoft Town. A good day for Redbridge.
