Redbridge FC 2 v 0 Romford- Attendance 131

Adam Silver5 Apr 2010 - 21:27

Redbridge continued their good recent form with their 3rd home win in a row in this local derby victory.

A confident and organised performance from Redbridge easily saw off Romford, to make it a great Easter Monday for Dave Ross whose side recorded their fourth win in six games.

In truth the hosts were barley troubled by the visitors who had won at the Oakside earlier in the season, to knock the Motormen out of the FA Cup at the Preliminary stage of the compeition. It was as good
a performance that Redbridge have had all season, as they barley gave the ball away all afternoon.

After putting in a spirited performance at Lowestoft Town on saturday where they lost 2-0 despite being in the game for long periods, Ross would have needed for his team to continue their good work and grab
a goal to settle down. That is exactly what the team did and in the fourth minute they went ahead.

Good work from Donovan Wilson found Craig White on the wing. The bright winger faked an early cross fooling his marker before sending in a ball into the box that cut out Romford's centrebacks allowing Mark Nougher to run in from midfield to head the ball home. What a start!

Leading the line for the Motormen was experienced striker Wayne Grant who has played in the higher levels of non-league football. Back for a second spell at the club, Grant showed his class throughout the game and a fine run from a Nougher cross almost resulted in one of the goals of the season. After running past two Romford defenders to get to the ball near the byline, Grant sped past another before sending in a peach of a cross to the far post. Steve Good was there to seemingly head the ball home but somehow Danny Mulrooney in goal for Romford kept it out, limiting the hosts to only a one goal lead at half time.

That lead was earnt though as a minute before half time, the visitors had their only spell of the half looking for a goal. A good ball from Chris Thomas was headed onto Kurt Smith's path in the box. Bravely though Simon Peddie headed the ball clear getting a knock for his troubles to secure the hosts lead going into half time.

After half time, Redbridge stepped up a couple of gears barley allowing Romford a kick of the ball. All the midfield worked hard with the defence not giving Smith or his strike partner Toran Singahore even a sniff of the ball.

Ross made an inspired change 20 minutes from the end bringing on the returning Anton Agdomar on for Australian midfielder Jack Petrie.
With his second full touch of the ball Agdomar fed in Grant through on goal. The striker showed his class by shooting over the onrushing
Mulrooney and into the back of the net for a well deserved goal.

Grant almost had a second two minutes from time, but was inches away from Agdomar's cross allowing Mulrooney to collect the ball at his feet.
To compound the visitors misery Smith scored an offside goal two minutes into injury time. Though even if it had gone in, it would not have ruined the Motormen's day as they moved seven points of nearest relegation rivals Leyton who drew 1-1 at home to VCD Athletic.
