The Motormen saw their opening day clash end in disappointment after losing convincingly to newly promoted Erith.

It all started so well for Dave Ross and Ricky Eaton’s side as they had the better of the opening exchanges, and scored after just three minutes of the game. Some good wing play by Emiel Aiken provided the simplest off finishes for Danny Charge.

The poor start for the home side could have seen them start to question their Ryman League status but instead it inspired them. The equaliser came after 10 minutes, Redbridge keeper Dean Driscoll, could only parry a shot and the follow up was stroked home by Marvin Alebiosu.

The hosts then began to take control of the match and Mo Conteh was on hand to make it 2-1 just 10 minutes before the end of the half.

Redbridge had a great chance to score in the first minute of the 2nd period but failed to hit the target and were made to pay when Erith extended their lead further moments later through Richard Morgan.

Erith worked the keeper and came close a few times and Redbridge saw a late shot come off the post but their first match was to end in defeat whilst the home side began their Ryman League life with a deserved three points.

All in all it was a disappointing performance for the Motormen who next play Avely who are the early pacesetters sitting top of the table after a fine 6-1 home win over Wroxham. The encounter on Tuesday at the Oakside is sure to be a tasty affair and we hope we can secure our first three points.
