Redbridge win 8 Goal Oakside Derby

Redbridge won 5-3 in a 8 goal thriller at the Oakside against tenants Barkingside, goals from Ben Bradbury, Kurt Smith and a Daniel Charge hat trick

Redbridge won the Oakside derby coming out 5-3 winners in an 8 goal thriller at the Oakside.

Both sides were pleased to get this rearranged fixture out the way as the match was originally scheduled for Boxing Day and it was the Motormen who picked up their first win of 2014.

The home side came out the blocks the quickest and ex Motorman Andy Edmunds saw his long range effort well held by Dean Driscoll. Patrick Damali then had a glorious chance for Redbridge but he failed to connect to Eljay Worrell’s free kick.

They were made to pay when Barkingside took the lead in the 17th minute when Steve Carvell broke free before bringing the ball down under his control and coolly turned inside is marker before slotting past Driscoll.

Redbridge got back into the game against the run of play on 34 minutes when from a corner Kurt Smith reacted quickest to bundle the ball past Chris Clarke to make it 1-1.

Before Redbridge had even stopped celebrating Barkingside went straight up the other end and regained their lead when Chas Liddiard rounded Driscoll and slotted the ball into the open net before a defender could get back to clear.

It was now goal crazy as just four minutes later Ben Bradbury equalised when again from a corner the ball fell to him and he rifled the ball through a packed area into the back of the net.

The game had now well and truly come alive and the 2nd half saw the action continue when after 55 minutes a great cross field ball from Kurt Smith found Daniel Charge and he rose unmarked steering his header past Clark and just beyond his stretched arm. It was unsure if the ball had fully crossed the line but the officials allowed the goal to stand much to Barkingside’s protests.

Barkingside’s day got worse when defender and another ex-Redbridge player in Sean Crossley received his 2nd booking after hacking down Kurt Smith and was sent from the field.

It then became the Daniel Charge show as the Redbridge striker grabbed a further two goals and although Liddiard pulled back another goal it was too little too late. The night could have been even more comfortable but Eljay Worrell fluffed his lines when through with only Clark to beat and then Smith saw his long range effort come back off the post.
