Motormen Hold on for Win

Adam Silver9 Apr 2014 - 12:07

In a hard fault match but Redbridge came out 2-1 winners against bottom side Waltham Forest, our goals coming from Daniel Francis and Emeil Aiken

Redbridge started the match as strong favourites against the bottom side but were made to work hard to secure all three points.

The home side looked to be on their way after just four minutes when they took the lead. Daniel Charge released Abs Thompson and his ball found Daniel Francis and although his shot was well blocked by Husseyin in goal the striker reacted by heading the ball back over the keeper into am empty net.

The home side were putting on the pressure and a Patrick Damali long range effort was tipped around the post.

Full back Bostry Basende was getting forward at every occasion and he burst past a couple of defenders but saw his shot go wide.

It took until the 21st minute for the away side to register a shot when Stephane Koffi effort sailed past Dean Driscoll's post.

Five minutes later however and Waltham Forest were level and it was Koffi on target. From fully 25 yards out he received the ball and on the half volley saw his spectacular effort fly over Driscoll leaving him with no chance . It was surely the goal of the season at the Oakside thus far.

Redbridge needed a reaction and got it within two minutes. A cross came in from the wing which found Daniel Smith and although his header smashed back off the crossbar Emeil Aiken was on hand to tap home.

As the half drew to an end the home side had further chances to extend their lead the best of which fell to Charge in added time but the keeper came out quickly to save.

The 2nd half was a disappointment for Redbridge as they failed to break down their opponents sitting back allowing them to attack

Chances came and went and Forest's Victor Igbo in particular was looking dangerous with his stepovers and pace.

It should have been 2-2 when Lee Scott beat Driscoll to a upfield pass but saw his effort roll wide of the open goal much to the disgust of the Waltham Forest manager who certainly never held back from telling his players what he thought.

The only real effort of the half for Redbridge came when Thompson pit in Charge but his goalbound effort was well saved.

The match ended with Redbridge looking to hold on as Forest continued to ask questions and although it was not pretty in the end a win in still a win.

They are back at the Oakside in two days time hosting Rymam League Cup runners up AFC Sudbury .
