Redbridge Overcome Abbey

Adam Silver2 Apr 2014 - 12:13

Redbridge secured a 3-2 victory over Waltham Abbey thanks to a Ben Bradbury goal and a Daniel Francis double,

Redbridge came away 3-2 winners in a tight match against Waltham Abbey at the Oakside.

Abbey certainly came out the blocks quickest putting the home defence under pressure.

The Motormen had to wait until the 15th minute for their first attempt which came through stand in captain Gary Henry but his effort was well tipped over by Ben Barnes in goal.

Youngster Charlie Parish then saw his headed effort from a corner just over before the best move of the match saw Abs Thompson set free down the wing , his delightful cross field pass found Ben Bradbury who shot first time bit dragged the ball wide .

Darrell Russell then got through at the other end but his effort was well blocked by the feet of Dean Driscoll.

As the half went on the match swung from end to end with both sides creating chances but the best of those fell to Redbridge when Daniel Charge best his man as he strode into the box but his effort lacked any real conviction and was easily saved.

The 2nd half started as the first ended and Abbey should have taken the lead but for Driscoll who made a great block save from Samuels effort .

Darelle Russell them saw his effort beat Driscoll but this time the crossbar saved Redbridge.

Next came what can only be described as a mad five minutes which saw both sides score twice.

Firstly the away side took the lead when a Louis Bristow free kick evaded everyone looping over the wall and catching out Driscoll.

Before the goal had even been announced the ball was up the other end and in the back of the Abbey net as Ben Bradbury poked home the equaliser.

Two minutes later and Waltham Abbey restored their lead as Samuels reacted first to a cross all before Daniel Francis did the same at the other end to level the scores. Any supporters who went for a quick cup of tea or toilet break would certainly have missed the goals.

Both sides now looked for a 3rd goal and it was to be the home side who got it when Francis again popped up with the winner.

He beat a defender to the ball and although his shot was parried by Barnes the ball clearly went over the line , thankfully there was no need for a camera replay on this occasion

Redbridge can now tick yet another fixture off their busy schedule before they travel to Burnham Ramblers on Thursday.
