Redbridge Comeback Thwarted

Redbridge Comeback Thwarted

Adam Silver11 Apr 2014 - 13:54

In a hard fault match but Redbridge came out 2-1 winners against bottom side Waltham Forest, our goals coming from Daniel Francis and Emeil Aiken.

The motormen were playing a Thursday fixture for the last time this season as they hosted a Sudbury side fresh from their Ryman League Cup defeat to Maidstone Utd just two days earlier.

The away side started the stronger of the two teams as they looked to pass the ball around trying to break down Redbridge.

The best effort fell to the home side after 10 minutes when a Daniel Charge through ball found Emeil Aiken but he blasted his effort high and wide.

It was no surprise to see Sudbury open the scoring after 26 minutes when Ollie Hughes rose unmarked to head home from a corner.

You would have thought Redbridge would have learnt their lesson but just ten minutes later and a cross from Payton Swatman found Sam Clark in acres of space all on his own and he simply just nodded the ball past Dean Driscoll to make it 2 nil.

Redbridge needed to get back in the game quickly and within five minutes they did just that.

Youngster Charlie Parish broke forward and on the half volley saw his effort fly through the hands of Alex Archer who may be felt he should have done better , none the less it was a good strike and the defender's first goal for the Motormen.

Into the 2nd half and the Motormen really upped the tempo as they looked to try and get back into the game.

They deservedly drew level on 56 minutes when top scorer Charge lifted the ball over a defender and spotting Archer off his line delightfully lobbed the ball over him into an empty net.

The home side were now in the ascendency and a Charge defence splitting pass found Bradbury but his shot was well saved.

Soon after and Sudbury should have scored a third when persistence by Hughes saw him find the unmarked James Akintunde but he made a hash of his effort and fired horribly wide.

It was not long however when the Suffolk side were back in front and it was a bad goal for the Motormen to concede.

A hopeful up field pass found Swatman free in space and a mix up between goalkeeper and defender meant the player simply had to lift the ball over Driscoll who was well off his line and the ball just fell into the unguarded net.

Redbridge had a succession of corners near the end as they went searching for an equaliser although Sudbury really could have killed the game off when Hughes outpaced his marked but fired just wide.
