Motormen Comeback Denied

Adam Silver16 Apr 2014 - 12:57

Redbridge once again came from two down to draw level but were again denied as two quick goals aw play off contenders Harlow Town win 4-2.

Redbridge played their final midweek match of the season and ended a recent run of five consecutive home matches in the past 10 days. Harlow arrived looking to cement their play off place and they started the match on the front foot looking to attack , their first attempt came on just three minutes when ex Motorman and currently league top scorer Alex Read free kick was straight into the arms of Dean Driscoll.

On eight minutes it was the same player whom opened the scoring when a long ball from another ex Redbridge player Johnathan Glowacki caught out the Redbridge back line and Junior Dadson broke free before squaring straight into the strikers path and he made no mistake from six yards out to fire home his 37th league goal of the campaign.

Redbridge’s first attempt on target was after 13 minutes when an Eljay Worrell free kick was comfortably held by Dan Knowles in the Harlow goal. It was not long before Harlow were back on the attack and it was that man Read again who popped up to score the second, he latched onto a simple ball over the top and outpaced defender Tyron Thomas before coolly slotting past the onrushing Driscoll.

He almost grabbed himself a hat trick but his powerful drive was well held by Driscoll before Dadson got in on the act but his shot was also saved by the busy goalkeeper. On 36 minutes against the run of play the home side grabbed themselves a lifeline when Stephen Good scored a beauty by controlling and then unleashing a half volley which beat Knowles from 15 yards out into the bottom corner of the net.

Within three minutes and the match was turned on its head as Redbridge grabbed an unexpected equaliser, the first goal was good but this was even better and it was Emeil Aiken who met a cross and his exquisite volley flew past Knowles before he even had time to react, it was one of those strikes you knew was a goal once the player made contact with the ball. How the match now changed and all the ascendency was now with the home side as they looked for a 3rd , it was certainly a case of déjà vu after coming back from two down last week at home to AFC Sudbury before drawing level.

Into the second half and Harlow regained the lead on 52 minutes when a lovely cushioned header from Read fell into the path of Dadson who continued his run towards goal and his powerful effort rifled off the post into the back of the net , on another day it would have bounced away to safety.

Before Redbridge knew what had hit them they had conceded again, this time they failed to clear and another ex Redbridge player Leon Antoine was on hand to rifle home.

The rest of the half belonged to the visitors and Redbridge’s best effort was a long range effort from Worrell which thumped off the cross bar and away to safety. Redbridge now have three very tough fixtures remaining before the season ends starting with Thurrock away on Saturday before returning back to the Oakside to face leaders VCD Athletic.
