Bengal Beaten

Redbridge had a convincing 5-1 away victory at Sporting Bengal with Timothy Ogunrinde grabbing a hattrick.

Sporting Bengal bid a farewell to manager Imrul Gazi as his players gave him a guard of honor before kick off in what would be his final time watching from the dugout after five years in charge.

His side no doubt wanted to put in a good performance after having lost their opening four matches and were currently sitting second from bottom of the ESL.

It was however the Motormen who came out the blocks the quickest as Jake Brocklebank had the first shot of the evening but he failed to keep the ball down as it rose high over the crossbar.

Sporting then came forward for the first time through a free kick which was only partially cleared falling at the feet of Chaka Barnett who shot needed to be tipped around the post by Joseph Palmer in the Redbridge goal for a corner.

A minute later and the away side took the lead through a relatively simple goal, a long kick up field was headed on by captain James Barlow into the path of Timothy Ogunrinde who ran at goal before guiding his effort past Khan in goal.

The home side showed a good response forcing a couple of corners before Munir Hadi chanced his luck when his initial free kick was blocked he had a second bite of the cherry firing just over the top.

That missed chance however was seized on by a ruthless attacking Redbridge who doubled their lead , Barlow won the ball back in midfield before spraying it out wide to Abdishakur Farah who in turn found Ogunrinde who made no mistake scoring his second of the game.

Yet again Sporting never let their heads go down and response by almost grabbing an immediate reply, a teasing cross was whipped into the middle finding a blue shirt but Palmer was on hand to make a good save getting down quickly to make the block.

Redbridge continued to look the most likely to score the next goal , a lovely ball up field from full back Jack Roult found Barlow whose delicate first touch took him away from a defender who in fairness did well to recover and clear. The resulting corner was not fully cleared and allowed Redbridge to win themselves a free kick just outside the box , up stepped Farah who curled a delightful effort into the top corner leaving Khan with no chance as he registered his first goal of the season.

Redbridge were in no mood to sit back and continued to attack , Ogunrinde showed good skill in getting by a defender who stuck out a foot and brought him down leaving the referee with no option but to award a penalty.

Ogunrinde placed the ball on the spot looking to claim a first half hattrick however his shot was well pushed away by Khan as the curse of penalties continued for Redbridge with that now being the third they had missed already this season.

That miss was soon punished when Bengal managed to get themselves a life line just on half time, with Redbridge defenders looking for the offside flag Mahzin Zaman took no notice and fired in a shot which proved too powerful for Palmer to hold onto and as it dropped Barnett was on hand to poke home the loose ball.

Redbridge knew that goal would have given Sporting hope of a comeback but soon put any chance of that to bed with a fourth goal, sloppy play by the home defence gifted possession to Barlow who curled the ball home.

Four soon became five, Barlow again involved as he flicked a header into the path of Ogunrinde and this time he made no mistake firing home from a wide angle to grab his hat trick .

The remainder of the half saw little change as Redbridge went in search of number six , substitutes Sonny Fish and Josh Sykes combined well with the latter seeing his shot saved before Fish was unable to steer home the follow up only succeeding in finding the side netting.

The full time whistle was then blown as a convincing away performance saw Redbridge pick up the three points and go second in the table whilst Sporting know that new manager Shipon Miah will have a tough task ahead in trying to keep his side in the league.
