Redbridge hosted Cockfosters at the Oakside and had the perfect start when Ibrahim Kehinde fired them ahead with just 43 seconds on the clock, The striker collected the ball out wide and as he ran into the box he saw his shot squeeze past Adrian Darabant who would have been disappointed to have beaten at his near post.
Kehinde was causing problems for the home defence and appeared to be upended in the box going down under a challenge from Darabant however referee Stuart Cheek was quick to wave away any penalty appeals
The home side continued to dominate the early proceedings and from a corner defender Nathan Okayed was inches from connecting with his head.
For the first time in the math Cockfosters came forward working the ball well into the middle where Reece Barrett saw his effort fly well over the bar.
It was a brief let off as Redbridge again came forward, the ball fell kindly for Herman Mwanza who dragged a shot wide before good work by James Barlow put in Josh Olukolo who fired in a shot which saw the bet bulge but unfortunately for the home side it fell the wrong side of the upright.
Cockfosters soon started to have a spell of possession in the game without really being able to pressure the home defence as Michael Corderoy in goal found himself with little to do.
Jack Chawner saw his shot from distance deflected over before Barlow turned and shot straight at Darabant.
Barrett saw his effort blocked before Kehinde yet again found himself on the floor but as with the first decision the referee seemed undeterred.
Redbridge had further attempts to double their advantage as first Barlow sliced wide before Darabant palmed away a fierce drive from Chawner.
The second period started with Barlow being denied from a corner however it was not long before Redbridge did double their advantage.
Good work out on the left by Josh Olukolo saw his cross over towards the far post, Kehinde was in space and had tome to bring the ball down before turning and shooting home.
Cockfosters soon had the ball in the back of the net however they were to be denied when the assistant on the far side raised a flag for offside.
Barlow ran onto a long ball over the top and attempted to hit the ball first time over Darabant however Kehinde unmarked in the middle would have been the better option.
With thirteen minutes remaining Cockfosters did finally pull a goal back, a through ball found Fred Agyemang who executed a fine lob over the oncoming Corderoy into the back of the net.
Sloppy defending by Cockfosters saw them lose the ball in a dangerous position to Kehinde who shot was turned away into the path of Chawner who tried to curl the ball into the far corner but got his angles wrong.
Into the final minutes and the away side placed pressure on the Redbridge goal in search of an equaliser although the home side almost grabbed a 3rd when substitute Louie Hazelwood flashed an effort wide of the far post.
That was to be the final chance of the game as full time was soon called as Redbridge secured the three points, a result which takes them into 2nd place behind leaders Walthamstow.
