Redbridge travelled to lowly Sawbridgeworth Town who were still battling relegation whilst the Motormen had playoff aspirations as they headed into the final few weeks of the season, newly signed Jerold Cobblah from Ilford started whilst their other new face in Kobe Yeboah was on the bench.
The away side started on the front foot and a cross from Ibrahim Kehinde was tipped away by keeper Jimmy Parker into the path of Michael Pindy who could only succeed in firing wide.
At the other end the home side had half an opportunity when Morgan Arnold tried his luck from range but his shot rose well over the bar.
A big chance then went begging for Redbridge, from a long throw Tony Martin collected before turning and although his shot beat Parker it bounced back off the crossbar into the path of Pindy who headed back towards goal only to see the ball rebound once again off the bar before Nathan Okoye finally headed over and with it the chance had gone.
Big shouts for a penalty soon followed as Cobblah appeared to be upended in the box however the referee waved away any appeals.
It was all one way traffic in the opening 30 minutes as Cobblah fired over whilst at the other end the home side were offering very little in the final third as Redbridge were contending well with the long balls over the top.
Finally there was a spell of pressure from the home side resulting in them winning their first corner, skipper Teddy Hall then fell to the ground in the box but the referee felt it was unjust and in doing so booked the player for diving.
A lull in proceedings followed with the closest we saw to a goal being a first time shot from Martin which just lifted the bar.
As half time approached the pressure finally told as Redbridge took a deserved lead, Martin stayed onside to collect a ball over the top and although he could have gone for goal he unselfishly squared to Kehinde who was unmarked and he had time to control and fire low past Parker to open the scoring.
Kehinde then found himself through on goal but lost the ball under his feet before tumbling to the ground however the referee as with the Sawbridgeworth player earlier felt the Redbridge man also had gone looking for a penalty and evened out the yellow cards.
Kehinde soon turned his frustration into delight as he found himself on the end of a Pindy cross to double his and Redbridge’s lead
With the home side wanting the whistle Redbridge still had time for another goal, a nice passing move resulted in Martin in on goal and he beat Parker to make it three nil in just under 5 minutes, Sawbridgeworth were shocked to say the least
Into the second half and a poor clearance from Parker went straight to Martin but his defenders were quickly on hand to clear the danger.
Okoye then headed wide from a corner before a Jack Chawner free kick was fumbled almost allowing Kehinde to follow up.
Redbridge substitute Tim Ogunrinde then did well to find Kehinde looking for his hattrick but his shot was off target.
Ogunrinde into Kehinde looking for hattrick off target
In all honesty the second half was a poor spectacle and although the away side continued to dominate proceedings they never really came close to adding to the score line.
With time ticking away Bradley Bennett came off the bench looked to shoot but he was forced wide and dragged his effort across the box
With that the final whistle was blown giving Redbridge 3 points and moves them back up above Stansted into 2nd whilst Sawbridgeworth who looked short of ideas will need to improve quickly if they are to move away from a possible relegation from the ESL.
