Motormen Progress in Trophy

The Baggies took on the Motormen at a bright and sunny Operatix Community Ground for a place in the First Round Proper of the FA Trophy. The match itself was a very tight affair with few clear-cut chances and was therefore, unsurprisingly, settled by penalty kicks. Connor Wheatley was the hero of the shoot-out, saving three out of the four Badshot Lea penalties (only Adam New managed to score) as Redbridge progressed through 4-1 after the ninety minutes had ended goalless.

The game started on a low-key note with the first chance falling to The Baggies after an under hit back-pass was scrambled away for a corner. Time and again attacks were broken down by both defences, but at least the man in the middle allowed the game to flow. The Baggies tried to thread balls through a tight visiting defence to no avail before Solomon Oguwamaju picked up a loose ball, drove forward and hit the post with a curling shot. The second half was better as both sides went in search of that elusive first goal making changes as it progressed, but none of the substitutes were able to make the breakthrough. The Baggies almost won it in added time when Lamin Ceesay had a downward header deflected wide for a corner. The referee then signalled the end of the match and penalties ensued to decide the outcome.

Connor Wheatley was the hero for Redbridge saving three out of the four Badshot penalties , Adam New the only scorer for the home as the Motormen went through comfortably.
