Arlesey and Redbridge will need to do battle once again as this FA Trophy match ended all square forcing a replay on Tuesday evening.
With recent poor form both sides would have welcomed a break from their respective league campaigns as they met one another for the first time in eight years.
Redbridge had a lucky escape early on when good work by the pacey Nathan Olunkanmi saw him cut inside Jordan Cornelius and put the ball across the area into the path of Bill Plumpton who with an empty net facing him amazingly missed the target from 5 yards out.
The same player then went closer when he controlled a lovely ball from Christian Tavernier and with Jack Avery in goal stranded the ball rebounded back off a post to safety. Avery was now a busy man and pulled off a good save from Olunkanmi’s fierce drive as the home side looked for the break through.
The goal did come on 23 minutes when good work by Plumpton saw the cross met by Jack Vasey who had the simple take of heading home.
In a first half dominated by the home side all Redbridge could muster was a Daniel Jones shot off target and an attempt from Knight which stung the fingertips of Nick Thompson in goal. Vasey was denied his 2nd of the game when put through on goal Avery made another good stop to keep the score down at the break.
The 2nd half started with Arlesey continuing to increase their lead as they spurned two good opportunities which they were punished for when on 53 minutes Redbridge got themselves back into the match.
Joe Gent superbly slipped his way past two defenders and passed to Knight who took his first time effort well sweeping the ball home. The goal certainly seemed to spur on the away side who were now on top and wasted several good efforts.
Redbridge defender Timi Dorgu then got back to thwart Plumpton and as the ball rebounded up towards goal Avery got back just in time to claw away the danger. With minutes remaining Redbridge spurned a great chance to win the game when a good break up field from Cornelius released Gent but he tried to shoot with the outside of his foot and the ball sailed over the bar. They then had even further chances to claim victory and as the final whistle was blown it was the away side most relieved.
